Game Story
What is your favorite rodent? Rodents can sometimes get a bad rap, but there are so many fun ones like groundhogs, capybaras, and of course, beavers!
In Hazel’s Helpers from Simply Fun, the hardworking beaver kits are learning how to build their lodges. Who can use all their logs to build their lodge first?
Quick Stats
The Components
Rubber duckies and the building logs in the game immediately draw kids in. The pieces are sturdy and well made, just like Shore Seekers, another Simply Fun Game we enjoy. Everything stores nicely in the insert in the box.
Game Play
In Hazel’s Helpers, you are racing against each other to use all your logs to build your beaver lodge. Players take turns rolling the die and act based on what symbol they roll.
Rolling the log symbols will allow you to add 1 or 2 logs to your lodge.
The duck on the die means everyone says, “Quack, Quack!” and pick a duck, revealing how many logs you can add to your lodge.
Rolling a cattail means it’s time to remove a cattail from your player board.
The rock symbol means you will roll the grey rock from the duck pond towards another player’s lodge. If you hit their lodge, they will need to remove a log from their structure.
The last option on the die is a beaver and means everyone claps their hands to make the sound of a beaver tail slapping the water, and the player who rolled gets to reroll the die.
Whoever can use all 10 of their logs first to build their lodge is the winner!

Overall Thoughts
All my kids, 8, 7, and 5, were eager to play Hazel’s Helpers. It has a unique theme, and the pieces and artwork just seem to attract them to it. The box says 4+, and I would agree with that for independent play, but I would say this is one that younger children could play with some assistance.
It’s a great game that young kids can play independently! My friend Katie from the Gameschool Co-Op sells Simply Fun games, so check out her site to grab your copy of Hazel’s Helpers here!
