Read-Aloud and Audiobook List

Animal Lover’s love of reading, comprehension, and attention span for listening to books far surpasses her current reading level. I know that she will eventually “catch up,” so I try not to push her too hard since I would rather have her love reading then be able to do it well and hate it.

Although it’s great she loves being read to, sometimes I just can’t read as much as she would like, so audiobooks have been great for us. She will sometimes sit and listen to an audiobook several hours, and as horrible as it may sound, I just can’t sit and read for that long every day. I still read aloud, but just not for that long. No one really sleeps during rest time around here anymore, so audiobooks have also been great for rest time.

I normally get audiobooks from the library or an app called hoopla. Our library has a hoopla subscription, so for each library card your family has you can borrow 10 items each month. In addition to audiobooks, they also have movies, e-books and music, all for free with your library card. I especially love the hoopla app because then I don’t have to remember to return anything!

I wanted to start keeping track of the audiobooks and read-alouds that we have read and also ones that we would like to read. I decided it would be good to keep this list here because I would love suggestions of books I should add to our list. The read list is what we’ve read/listened to in the last month-ish, so I’ll update it as I remember others we’ve read. We have read most but not all of the Magic Treehouse books. That’s probably the biggest category missing off the “read” list.

  1. Hi Mary, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, The Chronicles of Narnia, Peter Pan, 101 Dalmations (not the Disney version)

    1. Thanks for the suggestions. I didn’t even know 101 Dalmatians was a book! I’m sure they’d like that.
Haha we have to try Narnia again later, when we started The Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe a few months ago the kids were terrified of Mr. Tumnus, which I was shocked by, but decided we’d try again a different time.
