This is just a quick post to share our plans for tomorrow, Juneteenth. It’s hard to believe, but I don’t think I had heard until last year of this holiday that celebrates the end of slavery in the United States. Here’s some of the history of Juneteenth, in case you are like me and hadn’t heard of it until recently.
Books
Here is our book list for the day. Unfortunately the library still isn’t open, but I was able to find an ebook for one book and I was able to find youtube video readings of two others. I didn’t know that you could find videos of so many kids books on youtube until the pandemic, but it’s been very helpful while the library is closed.

- All Different Now: Juneteenth, the First Day of Freedom by Angela Johnson
- Juneteenth Jamboree by Carole Boston Weatherford, illustrated by Yvonne Buchanan
- We will also read about St. Josephine Bakhita, St. Peter Claver, St. Martin de Porres, and Venerable Father Augustus Tolton
Activities
We will pray for African American people and for an end to racism. I made a spiritual bouquet printable that I filled in with our intentions and the prayers we will say. I also made a blank one, that can be filled in with any intention you would like and the hands can be colored as you say the prayer. I am printing off some free coloring pages from Shining Light Dolls website and we will also pray the Rosary with a recording that was led by Bishop Robert J. Brennan on June 9th of this year using the Rosary to End Racism Prayers.
